Good question. I don’t know if there’s a historical reason (though the invention of home computers and other personal screens definitely brought about the prevalence of glowy bits in sci-fi art), but I always blame it on color psychology. Our sun casts a yellowish light, so we associate that and similar warm light tones with being natural or from the outdoors. Blue is the color opposite of yellow, so we associate cool lighting tones with being unnatural. So psychologically, the easiest way to communicate ‘hey this is man-engineered scientifically extreme next level stuff’ is to give it blue lights.
